Sustainable ski-dogsled-kite adventure trips on Spitsbergen in spring 2010
The new trips with Svalbard Villmarkssenter on Spitsbergen are now online and can be booked. There are two 10-day trips with dog sleds, snow kites and skis to huts way off the frozen fjords, as well as snow kite courses and day ski mountaineering trips in one of the wildest and most vulnerable places on earth. Do your part in strengthening a local ecotourism family in order to substitute and exchange current not sustainable tourism practices in the Arctic. You can view and book the trips on the website of the Svalbard Villmarkssenter.
Please be aware that each journey to the Arctic causes emissions and accelerates climate change (e.g. 3.745t of CO2 per person for a return flight from Munich, Germany). Travelling to the Arctic has negative impacts on the environment, and we do not want to increase the number of visits to Spitsbergen quantitativeley - but we believe it can help to keep the artic wild if we manage to change the current kind of (tourism) industry qualitatively, and therefore we need people like you who get up there, show interest and invest into more sustainable practices. Only then the local voices of concerned actors gain more political power to alter the current system...
